What you should do if your caring responsibilities change 

You must tell Universal Credit as soon as possible if:

• you are no longer caring for someone
• you are no longer getting Carer's Allowance
• you have a temporary break from caring
• your care has dropped below 35 hours
• you share your caring responsibilities
• you start to earn a wage for being a carer
• the person you are caring for is no longer getting Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment
• the person you are caring for goes into hospital
• the person you are caring for goes into respite care
• the person you are caring for dies

This is not a complete list.

These changes may mean that you can no longer get the Carer's element. You may also need to accept a new Claimant Commitment.
